Returning to the workforce following a gap in a resume can be a daunting prospect, particularly for women of colour who are already at a disadvantage in terms of career trajectory and salary. How do you explain the gap, how do you ensure you’re being paid fairly, and when do you simply walk away?

Career coach and best-selling author Octavia Goredema joined Nadine Spencer, CEO of both Black Business and Professionals Association and the Brand EQ Group Inc., to share some tips and tricks from her latest book Prep, Push, Pivot: Essential Career Strategies for Underrepresented Women on breaking back in, negotiating salary and determining your worth.

Octavia Goredema is a career coach and the founder of Twenty Ten Agency. Her mission is to help underrepresented professionals advance their careers. Goredema has coached leaders at renowned companies including Google, American Airlines, Tinder, General Motors, Nike and Dow Jones.

Nadine Spencer was recently appointed as the Black Business and Professional Association’s acting CEO, a secondment from BrandEQ, her global agency specializing in social change marketing, communications, and public relations.
