Understanding the Political Environment of Policing
Instructor: Faculty of the Rotman School of Management
Course Summary: The course is to develop an appreciation of the importance of political astuteness, both as an interpersonal skill and an awareness of the changing context of policing. The personal skill set depends on an ability to judge a situation and to understand and manage different types of stakeholders. It also requires an understanding of governments’ decision-making processes, including the inherent budgetary pressures and intergovernmental dynamics.

The classes will focus on how issues evolve, how decisions are made by governments, particularly at the municipal level, the interplay between federal, provincial and municipal politics and the influence of stakeholders.

Instructors: Faculty of the Rotman School of Management
Course Summary: Participants are introduced to human resource strategies that support the overall vision and strategy of the organization. Techniques used in business are adapted to the policing environment.
