Course Summary:
|
The course is to develop an appreciation of the importance of political astuteness,
both as an interpersonal skill and an awareness of the changing context of
policing. The personal skill set depends on an ability to judge a situation
and to understand and manage different types of stakeholders. It also requires
an understanding of governments’ decision-making processes, including
the inherent budgetary pressures and intergovernmental dynamics.
The classes will focus on how issues evolve, how decisions are made by governments,
particularly at the municipal level, the interplay between federal, provincial
and municipal politics and the influence of stakeholders.
