TORONTO, December 3, 2002 -- The Judy Project: An Enlightened Leadership Forum for Executive Women was unveiled today
at The University of Toronto's Joseph L. Rotman School of Management. Created in the spirit of Judy Elder,
an influential business leader who passed away suddenly in March 2002, the annual five-day program is
designed to advance more women into CEO positions.
The forum will be intensely experiential, bringing together senior executives and leaders to work with
participants, to hone skills in setting direction, risk taking, producing and leading through change,
building effective networks, inspiring others, building aligned collaborative organizations and being
true to themselves.
The program will be taught through a collaborative effort between the Rotman School's world-class
faculty and leading business executives. Curriculum will focus on positioning superior women executives
as exceptional leaders and will examine the philosophical, attitudinal and behavioural components of leadership.
"The Judy Project will help build a powerful, ever-growing network of female leaders - women like Judy -
who are committed to making a difference and to driving personal and organizational growth in the 21st century,"
said Colleen Moorehead, President of E*TRADE Canada Securities and business director of the Project. "Women are
still under represented in Canada's boardrooms and corner offices, representing only 12 percent of corporate
officers in Canada. This program will allow leading organizations to identify, support and promote successful
ambitious women."
This unique program will enable participants to reach a new level of leadership success to the advantage of
their organizations. The Judy Project is built as a latticework of three interrelated themes:enhancing the participant's skill set and inspiring a new perspective on the role of leader. challenging conventional thinking on leadership and established business behaviours including
the role of gender on leadership.
taking a holistic view of success.
"We believe we have created an unprecedented program that will support great women leaders and build stronger
organizations," said Roger Martin, Dean of the Rotman School and a faculty member for the Judy Project.
Participants in the five-day program will be selected from senior women executives with over 10 years experience
and a proven track record of accomplishments who aspire to lead large organizations in five to eight years.
Participants will also have demonstrated clear ambition for themselves, colleagues and their organization as
well as an equal passion for leadership and their commitment to family, friends and the community.
In the program collaboratively created by some of Canada's senior women executives in partnership with the
Rotman School, well-respected academics and business leaders will guide the sessions and share their experiences.
The program's Academic Director is Brian Golden, Associate Professor of Strategic Management and Organization,
