BusinessWeek Says Rotman School
Among the Top Tier of Business Schools

TORONTO, October 11, 2002 -- For the second consecutive ranking by BusinessWeek, the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management has been named in the top tier of business schools in the world. The Rotman School placed 5th among ten international schools in the top tier, jumping two places from the last ranking in 2000. The results were published today in the current issue (October 21, 2002) of the magazine. Complete details are available online at:

" The Rotman School has once again been cited as one of the leading business schools in the world. This survey is especially gratifying since it is based on the opinions of our most recent MBA graduating class along with our current corporate recruiters," says Roger Martin, Dean and Professor of Strategic Management. "Our innovative approach to business education, focusing on integrative thinking, has started to be recognized by the market. The results also bring good news for Canada as four Canadian business schools were ranked in the international top tier."

BusinessWeek has produced a biannual ranking of business schools since 1988. Non-U.S. schools were first included in 2000 when the Rotman School placed 7th among the top tier of international schools. The ranking is based on a survey of the most recent MBA graduating class (Spring 2002) along with the views of corporate recruiters. It also assesses the research output of the ranked schools.

Recently ranked by The Wall Street Journal among the best business schools in the world, the University of Toronto's Joseph L. Rotman School of Management offers leading-edge research and degree programs, including the prestigious Rotman MBA, the Rotman Part-Time MBA, the One-Year MBA for Executives, a first-rate Doctoral program, the distinctive Master of Management & Professional Accounting program, the undergraduate Commerce program in partnership with the Faculty of Arts and Science, combined programs with the University of Toronto faculties of Law, Engineering and Nursing, and an innovative series of Executive Programs tailored to the current needs of businesses and individual managers.
