Rotman MBAs Win Financial Trading Competition Against Carnegie-Mellon and MIT

TORONTO, March 26, 2002 -- A team of 2nd year MBA students from the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management defeated teams from Carnegie Mellon University and the Sloan School of Management to win the first ever Inter- University Trading Competition hosted by the Rotman School.

The Carnegie Mellon MBA team placed second while a team representing 1st-year Rotman MBAs placed third. Overall, in the competition held on Saturday, March 23rd, the Rotman School won the best university honours and Rotman's Michael Kuan, MBA'02, was the best individual trader. Teams representing the Sloan School at MIT and Carnegie Mellon's Master of Science in Computational Finance program also participated. The most consistent trader on the day was Silvana Hernandez from the Carnegie Mellon MBA team.

The Rotman School was represented by Jason Baibokas, MBA'03, Todd Bloomfield, MBA'03, Steve Green, MBA'02, Greg Harris, MBA'03, Mike Kuan, MBA'02, Neil Lindsay, MBA'02, Amit Mujumdar, MBA'03, Les Peterdy, MBA'02, Bradley Shields, MBA'02, Nick Smith, MBA'02, Tom Varesh, MBA'02, Summer Xia, MBA'03.

The competition was held in the Rotman Financial Research & Trading Lab. The lab is one of the leading facilities of its kind in North America with 30 dual flat panel trading stations equipped with Moneyline's Telerate Plus software package and real-time data feeds, two Bloomberg terminals, two projection screens, two Trans-Lux datawalls, an integrated audio video system and a wide array of industry tools and applications.

Students competed in five trading sessions during the day using Carnegie-Mellon's FTS software package.
