David acts as both strategist and "business architect"– creating new business models for the e-commerce space and bringing together prospective partners to build them. Clients range from major multinationals to small start-ups across a wide array of industries including: financial services, consumer goods, health care, business services, retailing, automotive, apparel, electronics, publishing and high technology. His work also focuses on issues of competitive strategy, new business development, branding, pricing, fulfillment, and implementation in electronic commerce. David’s advice has been sought frequently on issues of public policy in North America, South America, Europe and Asia. Currently, he is co-chair of the Canadian E-Business Opportunities Roundtable, a joint private and public sector advisory group on e-commerce. BCG has built a leading international practice in business-to-consumer and business-to-business e-commerce with offices and e-commerce capability in 32 countries.
Under David’s guidance, BCG’s e-commerce team has grown to offer clients a full spectrum of e-commerce consulting assistance from solving specific problems to managing the rapid start-up of entire online businesses. David, for instance, led BCG’s team, which conceptualized and helped launch Brandwise.com, a leading business in the online home durables market. BCG has also developed a leading e-commerce research capability. For example BCG has conducted, in partnership with Shop.org, the first true census of online retailers in North America, including detailed data and analysis of online retailing metrics. In addition to his e-commerce responsibilities, David manages the Canadian operations of BCG. He holds a Master’s in philosophy from the University of Sussex and an AB magna cum laude from Harvard College.
