Rotman MBA students match their financial trading skills against stiff competition when their counterparts from Carnegie Mellon University and the Sloan School of Management at MIT come to the University of Toronto for the first ever Inter-University Trading Competition hosted by the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management.
"It's a great event," says Professor John Hull, Director of the Bonham Centre for Finance, Maple Financial Group Chair in Derivatives and Risk Management and one of the co-organizers of the competition. "The students will take part in five hours of trading. This kind of practical experience -- trading in a competitive environment -- really complements their classroom learning."
The student traders will battle for University and individual honours. Two teams, each representing the first and second year of the MBA program, will participate from Rotman. There will be one team of MBA students from the Sloan School at MIT. Carnegie Mellon will be represented by a team of MBA students and a team from the Master of Science in Computational Finance program.
The competition will be held on Saturday, March 23, in the Rotman Financial Research & Trading Lab. The lab is one of the leading facilities of its kind in North America with 30 dual flat panel trading stations equipped with Moneyline's Telerate Plus software package and real-time data feeds, two Bloomberg terminals, two projection screens, two Trans-Lux datawalls, an integrated audio video system and a wide array of industry tools and applications.
Students will compete in four trading sessions during the day using Carnegie-Mellon's FTS software package. The day will conclude with a Post-Trading Reception and Awards Ceremony.
