Rotman Prof to Head C.D. Howe Institute  

TORONTO - Effective September 6, Jack Mintz, Arthur Andersen Professor of Taxation at the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management, will become President and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, while continuing teaching and research as a member of the Rotman faculty.

"This is a great honour for Jack Mintz, and we congratulate him on this outstanding appointment," says Rotman School Dean Roger Martin. "The C.D. Howe Institute is Canada's leading independent, nonpartisan public policy research organization, and I am delighted that it is to be led by one of the Rotman School's most distinguished professors. Jack's appointment will strengthen our ties with the CD Howe Institute, enhancing our ability to intersect with the business community on important issues such as Canadian competitiveness in the global economy."

Nationally renowned tax expert Jack Mintz joined the Rotman School in 1989, with a cross appointment to U of T's Department of Economics. With a B.A. from the University of Alberta, an M.A. from Queen's, and a PhD from Britain's University of Essex, Mintz served as associate dean of the Rotman School from 1993 to 1995. In 1996 and 1997, he was the Clifford Clark Visiting Economist with the Ministry of Finance in Ottawa. In 1996, he was appointed by Finance Minister Paul Martin to chair the government's Technical Committee on Business Taxation. In 1998, he was also a visiting scholar with the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C.
