Rotman School Appoints Fifteen New Faculty Members
TORONTO Fifteen leading professors and researchers will join U of T's Rotman School of Management this fall - one of the largest waves of faculty hiring in the School's history. A U of T alumnus who is one of the leading researchers in accounting and the outgoing President and CEO of the C. D. Howe Institute are among the new faculty.
"I am pleased that the School has been able to attract such strong talent at one of the most exciting times in our history as we strive to become one of the top ten business schools in the world," says Peter Pauly, associate dean, research and academic resources. "Five of seven fellows of the Royal Society of Canada teaching at Canadian business schools are Rotman faculty. These new hires will greatly enhance our complement of distinguished academics."
Terry Amburgey, a professor of strategic management, joins the Rotman School from the University of Kentucky. Prof. Amburgey's research interests include organizational and strategic change and industry evolution. He will also serve on the faculty of the Rotman School's new PhD stream in strategic management. Previously, he has taught at EDHEC in France, Dartmouth College and Northwestern University.
Thomas Kierans, current President and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, joins the Rotman School in September as the director of the Clarkson Centre for Business Ethics and holder of the Geoffrey R. Conway Chair in business ethics. With a B.A. from McGill University and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago, Kierans was President and Director of McLeod Young Weir Limited (later ScotiaMcLeod), Senior Vice President of Pitfield Mackay Ross, and Vice President and Director of Nesbitt Thomson and Company Limited.
Internationally recognized tax expert Richard Bird, professor emeritus at the University of Toronto, joins Rotman's International Tax Program at the Institute for International Business as an adjunct professor of business economics.
Peter Dungan is an adjunct associate professor of business economics and has been at the University of Toronto for 22 years. He serves as the associate director of the U of T's Policy and Economic Analysis Program, one of Canada's leading economic forecasting groups. He will be teaching business economics in the MBA program.
Other new faculty members includes four new appointments in the Finance area.
- P. Robert Duimering will be an assistant professor of accounting and management information systems. Prof. Duimering received his PhD from the University of Waterloo and will be teaching at the University of Toronto at Mississauga.
- Catherine Loughlin will be an assistant professor of organizational behaviour at the University of Toronto at Scarborough and cross-appointed to the Rotman School.
- Nitin Mehta joins the Rotman School as an assistant professor of marketing. Prof. Mehta will receive his PhD this year from the Graduate School of Industrial Administration at Carnegie Mellon University.
- Mihnea Moldoveanu will be an assistant professor of strategic management. Prof. Moldoveanu received his PhD from the Harvard Business School in 1997.
- Oyvind Norli will be an assistant professor of finance. He holds a PhD in Finance from the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration.
- John Oesch will be an assistant professor of organizational behaviour. He joins the Rotman School after completing his PhD at Northwestern University. Prof. Oesch also holds four degrees from the University of Western Ontario.
- Carlton-James Osakwe will be lecturer in finance. He is currently completing a PhD in Finance at McGill University.
- Marcel Rindisbacher is an assistant professor of finance who comes to the Rotman School from the Université de Montréal where he is completing a PhD in economics.
- Sean Robb joins the Rotman School as an assistant professor of accounting. He holds a PhD in financial accounting from the University of Florida. Previously he was an assistant professor at the School of Business and Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University.
- Kevin Wang will be an assistant professor of finance. He has a PhD in Finance from the University of Chicago.
