Rotman School Operations Management Research Honoured at 2022 INFORMS Annual Meeting.
Toronto, October 26, 2022 – Research co-authored by operations management and statistics faculty with appointments at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management was honoured at the annual meeting of The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) held last week in Indianapolis.
Research on data-driven network inventory optimization by Sheng Liu, an assistant professor of operations management and statistics, was one of two winners in the 2021 Manufacturing & Service Operations Management Data Driven Research Challenge. This research develops prescriptive solutions for big retailers to distribute inventory across large-scale logistics networks efficiently.
A study co-authored by Prof. Liu with Prof. Auyon Siddiq and PhD student Jingwei Zhang of UCLA Anderson on bike lane planning won second place in the INFORMS IBM Best Student Paper Award. The study, currently under revision at Management Science, was also selected as a finalist for the INFORMS Workshop on Data Mining and Decision Analytics Best Applied Paper Award.
A paper co-authored by Shreyas Sekar, an assistant professor of operations management at the University of Toronto Scarborough and the Rotman School, was awarded as a finalist for the 2022 Data Mining Best Paper award. The paper, Learning Product Rankings Robust to Fake Users, is forthcoming in Operations Research. It was co-authored by Prof. Negin Golrezaei of MIT Sloan School of Management, Prof. Vahideh Manshadi of Yale School of Management, and Jon Schneider of Google Inc.
A paper co-authored by Ming Hu, University of Toronto Distinguished Professor of Business Operations and Analytics, was a finalist for the 2022 Manufacturing & Service Operations Management (M&SOM) Service Management SIG Best Paper Award. The paper, Dynamic Type Matching, appeared in M&SOM and was co-authored by Prof. Yun Zhou of McMaster University.
A paper, Model-Free Assortment Pricing with Transaction Data, co-authored by Ningyuan Chen, an assistant professor of operations management at the University of Toronto Mississauga and the Rotman School, Andre Cire, an associate professor of operations management at the University of Toronto Scarborough and the Rotman School, Prof. Ming Hu, and Prof. Saman Lagzi of Wilfrid Laurier University, was a finalist for the 2022 Jeff McGill Student Paper Award from the Revenue Management and Pricing section of INFORMS. The paper is forthcoming in Management Science.
A paper co-authored by Prof. Andre Cire was a finalist of the 2022 Multicriteria Decision Making Junior Researcher Best Paper Award with co-author Merve Bodurm, an assistant professor of industrial engineering at the University of Toronto, as the main applicant. The paper, Multiobjective Discrete Optimization, appeared in INFORMS Journal on Computing. The paper was also co-authored by Profs. David Bergman and Carlos Cardonha of the University of Connecticut.
