Four New Appointments to Chairs and Professorships Announced at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management

Toronto, September 28, 2020 – Four faculty members at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management have received new appointments, which were announced by the University this week.

Prof. Tiziana Casciaro is the Marcel Desautels Chair in Integrative Thinking. Prof. Professor Hai Lu will hold the McCutcheon Professorship in International Business. Prof. Bill McEvily has been appointed to the Jim Fisher Professorship in Leadership Development and Prof. Mengze Shi will hold the Ellison Professorship in Marketing.

Tiziana Casciaro is a professor of organizational behaviour. Her research explores how structural and psychological forces jointly shape behavior in organizations. Her award-winning research on organizational networks, power dynamics, change implementation, and professional networking and has been featured in The Economist, Financial Times, Washington Post, Fortune and TIME. In 2018, Thinkers50 recognized Tiziana as one of the thirty thinkers most likely to shape the future of how organizations are managed and led.

Hai Lu is a professor of accounting and is the founding director of Guanghua-Rotman Centre for Information and Capital Market Research. The Centre, a partnership between the Guanghua School of Management at Peking University and the Rotman School, aims to deepen the understanding of Chinese capital market and facilitate comparative research on developed and emerging markets through field studies and new technology. His research interests include insider trading, securities valuation, corporate governance, and Chinese capital market. He serves as an editor of Contemporary Accounting Research.

Bill McEvily is a professor of strategic management. His research explores social networks as an organizational and strategic resource. He teaches courses on social networks, strategy implementation and organizational theory. He has published research articles in leading academic journals in the fields of management, psychology, sociology, and economics. He is a senior editor at Organization Science and has served as guest editor for special issues of Management Science and Organization Science.

Prof. Mengze Shi is a professor of marketing. His research is focused on incentives, specifically how people respond to incentives and how companies should design incentive programs. He has investigated a wide range of consumer incentive programs, including loyalty rewards, sweepstakes, group buying, discounts, and direct mails, as well as incentives for sales agents such as commissions and sales contests. He is an associate editor with Management Science and serves on the editorial board of Marketing Science.
