Rotman Faculty Members Honoured With Awards from The International Alliance for Women

Toronto , November 2, 2010 – Two faculty members at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto were honoured for their work in advancing the economic empowerment of women. Prof. Heather Anne-Irwin and Associate Dean Beatrix Dart have been named as two of The International Alliance for Women’s (TIAW) 2010 World of Difference Award recipients. Award winners were announced at the TIAW World of Difference Awards Luncheon held in Toronto last month.

Heather-Anne Irwin, an adjunct professor of finance, has been involved in the finance industry for over twenty-five years as both a practitioner and a professor. She is the Executive Director of the Canadian Securities Institute Research Foundation. She is also the founding President of Women in Capital Markets, after chairing the steering committee that established the association. She continues to co-chair the WCM Mentorship program and is also involved in the Heather L. Main Memorial Scholarship Fund, which was established in 1998 to encourage qualified women, in participating Canadian graduate business schools, to pursue careers in the capital markets.

Beatrix Dart is Associate Dean, Executive Degree Programs, and Executive Director, Initiative for Women in Business at the Rotman School, which offers a wide range of programs and workshops to help support women in their efforts to advance and be successful in their careers. Before joining the Rotman School, Prof. Dart worked as a consultant and strategist for McKinsey and Company, one of the world's leading strategy firms. Based in London, Zurich, and Toronto, she worked on marketing practices and core recruiting activities, as well as being program leader for internal training and strategy. She worked in a variety of industry sectors, including financial services, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, technology, and consumer goods.

The Initiative for Women in Business at the Rotman School of Management empowers women to advance in their careers. It provides programs that refine management skills and help women develop the tools they need to be effective leaders and senior executives. The Rotman Initiative supports women from the classroom to the boardroom by offering continuing education, mentorship and networking opportunities.
