I’m a former tennis player who competed internationally, as a collegiate athlete in the U.S., and also worked as a coach. Prior to Rotman, I was the Director of a high performance junior program in Delray Beach, FL. After Rotman, I am looking to transition into a management consulting role. I’m a trilingual American-Colombian-Peruvian citizen. I’ve lived in 8 different countries and traveled over triple that amount. I’m passionate about living life through new cultural immersions and gravitate to diverse and inclusive environments (like Rotman or Toronto). Investigating the application and similarity of tennis strategy (mental or tactical) and business strategy is a strong passion of mine. I am also an avid traveler and my credo is to live life through experiential experiences. Recently, I’ve discovered I have a strong interest in data visualization after working with big data and visualization systems at my summer internship.

Why Rotman?
Easy: diversity, #1 in CAN and their business design program. Rotman has one of the highest diversity numbers of any MBA program in N. America, while Toronto is the most diverse city in the Americas! Rotman is the top program, has the best connections with top companies, and is taught by a faculty ranked #3 in the world for their research. Finally, Rotman is in the top 3 best business design MBA programs in the world.

I am an economist from Peru with extensive experience in Corporate Banking (structuring of short term facilites, as well as exposure to key corporate finance and investment banking transactions). I am fluent in three languages (Spanish, English and French), with some knowledge of Portuguese and German too. I have academic and work experience in Peru and abroad. I am currently looking forward to further develop my expertise in Finance-related sectors.

Why Rotman?
I chose Rotman because of its high reputation within the ranking for business schools in Canada, and its focus on soft and leadership skills which other schools do not have. It is a very popular choice for Latin American students that want to do graduate studies in Canada. The professors at school are good, and some of them are international leaders in their research areas.

Pre-MBA Education: Engineering
Recent Work Experience: Real Estate
Post-MBA Goals: Real Estate

After graduating from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering, I joined the SKOLL/Full Time MBA program at Rotman. My work experience before graduate school was various fields related to Real Estate including consulting, construction, and land development, and I am looking to pivot into commercial real estate development after school. I’m currently on the Executive Team for the Rotman Real Estate Association as VP Communications and it’s been an amazing learning experience so far. Outside the Rotman community, I enjoy visiting museums and seeking out new culinary experiences.

Why Rotman?
There are two important reasons why I chose to do my MBA at Rotman. The first is location – Rotman is in the heart of Toronto, and seamlessly connects students to vast networks of industry leading professionals as well as some of the best arts and culture. The second is diversity. After completing my undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto, I realized there are very few places or communities that are as diverse, and Rotman has continued to deepen my appreciation for new experiences and cultures.

Pre-MBA Education: Engineering
Recent Work Experience: Telecommunications
Post-MBA Goals: Consulting

Having studied Industrial Engineering, I have had my own business, worked as a risk Analyst for Citigroup and later as a project manager for the federal deployment of telecommunication technologies across Mexico. Professionally wise, I’m very interested in getting into business development and consulting since those areas are the best schools to consolidate myself as a future entrepreneur. As a certified scuba cave diver, avid cyclist and skiing enthusiast, I like being outdoors with my friends.

Why Rotman?
Rotman represented the best opportunity to make my dreams come true. The skills, exposure, challenge and in particular Rotuman’s Leadership Development Lab, will always be an essential part of my growth as a leader and well rounded professional. Tools that I will use in this new and life changing opportunity that living in Canada represents.

With an academic background in Cognitive Neuroscience and Corporate Communications, I created my career in Training & Development by showcasing my ability to translate learning objectives into a quantifiable ROI and communicate effectively in a business setting. Seeking more impact, I moved across several industries (Insurance, HR & Payroll, Sporting Goods, Public Sector Consulting and Banking), working as a Corporate Trainer and transitioning successfully into HR, Talent Management. In developing proficiency in role, I realized that I loved being part of creating the strategy as much as executing on it and decided to complete my MBA. I enjoy challenges and seek them both in my personal life and professionally.

Why Rotman?
I chose Rotman because they see the value in developing leadership potential over and above the traditional MBA curricula. It was very important to me to find a business school that not only taught me formal aspects of being successful in a business environment, but also how to effectively lead and inspire those around me.

I did my B.com (Honors) from The Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University and have been a Young India Fellow. Prior to Rotman, I have worked in consulting across strategy (Bain & Co), sports (Total Sports Asia) and brands (Futurebrands). The impact technology, design, and psychology have on business strategy fascinate me. I enjoy solving "wicked problems" and staring into mysteries and developing new heuristics. When not at Rotman you will find me either in the swimming pool, the tennis court or sitting at a café reading a book while I sip a flat white.

Why Rotman?
Rotman is a school which uses integrative thinking and business design extensively to solve a plethora of problems. I do believe that the problems that both business and society will face tomorrow will require a new way of thinking. This firm belief helped me shortlist Rotman. Besides, being an out-an-out city girl, I knew a city-based school would work best for me. Thus, Rotman’s location in downtown Toronto, Canada’s financial, commercial and cultural capital really appealed to me. I was also drawn to Canada as a country and Rotman being the number one program in Canada became the automatic choice.

Post-MBA Goals: Consulting

I was born and brought-up in India and post my undergrad in engineering I worked for three years as a Business Technology Analyst at Deloitte Consulting. Here I got the opportunity to work with healthcare clients in the USA from both public and private sectors, growing my interest in the industry. I worked majorly on technological implementations which helped my clients enhance their operational capabilities and be compliant with the changing landscape of the healthcare industry in the USA during the Obama administration. I am generally a curious person by nature so I am always on the lookout for new and exciting things to do or learn. And in my spare time I like to bike around the city, cook or play basketball.

Why Rotman?
Rotman has been described as the Harvard of the North. I believe that the statement does not do it justice. It is a school that molds MBAs in a very different league than any other school. In my research on the different MBA schools and in my conversations with a few friends who had been doing an MBA in those schools, I drew up six criteria on which I rated the schools: Location, Curriculum, Healthcare Consulting (Public Sector focussed), Global Programs, Faculty, FT Global Ranking and Work Visa. Across these categories Rotman stood out for me and I was extremely happy when I was admitted for my MBA. But having spent more than 16 months at the school, I believe that there is much more to Rotman than what I captured in those six criteria. The school provides you with an opportunity to learn from exceptionally diverse peers from the get go; it provides you an opportunity to explore where you can improve as a communicator, a leader, and a team player; it provides you with opportunities to let your inner nerd go wild with various applied academic opportunities and much more. The Rotman MBA for me has been a transformational experience on both a personal and a professional level, and coming to Rotman for my MBA has been one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life.

I did my undergraduate degree at Western, studying Media, Information, and Technoculture. This spawned my 7-year career in client services working in database marketing in both corporate and start-up environments. My undergrad studies involved thinking about the philosophical, ethical, and cultural implications of technology, and I’m now leveraging these skills as a part of the CDL at Rotman. I’m currently the President of the Business Design Club where I get to talk about creative problem solving and innovation every day. Post-Rotman I hope to work in a strategy role and continue tackling huge issues regarding the intersections of innovation, technology, and people. In my free time, I like to do barre classes and improv comedy!

Why Rotman?
I chose Rotman because I wanted to be in a city where things happen! Toronto isn’t just the financial capital of Canada, it’s also an amazing city of innovation where cool, new ideas are born everyday. Rotman is also a place that values diversity of thought and interests. I chose Rotman because I knew I could be my most authentic self and that the school would value all the ways I’m different.

After graduating from Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Science, I joined TELUS’ Marketing Development Program. Throughout the rotational program and afterwards, I had the opportunity to work in a variety of areas within the organization such as product marketing, strategy, product management, and category management for Mobile Accessories & Wearables. During my time at TELUS, I really enjoyed any opportunity to work cross-functionally and influence change, which sparked my interest in consulting. Given my science background, I decided to pursue an MBA to gain a well-rounded business education as well as to potentially transition into management consulting. I am currently on the Executive Team for the Management Consulting Association, looking after Case Competitions, and am also participating in the Creative Destruction Lab (CDL). Outside of Rotman, I am a huge basketball fan (Go Raptors!) and love to travel.

Why Rotman?
I chose Rotman for two main reasons. The first was the opportunity to learn from a diverse, impressive group of professors and students. Secondly, the opportunity to take advantage of all the exciting programs at Rotman as well as gain access to the vast network of organizations & alumni across a variety of industries.

Post-MBA Goals: Financial Services

Born and raised in Lima, Peru, I moved to the United States at age 18 to earn my Bachelor's Degree in Economics and Political Science at Texas Christian University (Go Frogs!), then worked for 1 year as Analyst in Commercial Real Estate Brokerage at Marcus & Millichap during the Great Recession before moving back to Peru in 2010. I then spent 6 amazing years as Senior Credit Solutions Manager in the Mining, Oil & Gas, Power, and Diversified industries at Scotiabank Peru, with a temporary assignment at Scotiabank Uruguay back in 2012. My goal is to continue my career in either Corporate Banking or Credit Risk Management at a leading Financial Institution in Canada. Besides Banking, my passions are soccer (I am a Rotman MBA Soccer team co-captain), music (all genres, but enjoy Progressive Rock a lot!), and spending time with my fiancée and family.

Why Rotman?
After 4 years of Corporate Banking experience and completing a Post-Graduate Diploma in Corporate Finance, I searched for a more developed Capital Markets plaza where to continue my Banking career, and ultimately for a safe, welcoming, challenging environment. Rotman is a microcosmos of these characteristics, and so my choice was a natural one. I had also networked extensively with alumni in Peru and Toronto, and this ultimately locked in my decision back in mid-2014 to apply and become part of the Class of 2018.
