ROTMAN LAUNCHES EXECUTIVE ALLIANCE WITH MCGILL

The business schools at two of CanadaÕs leading universities have joined together in a first-of-its-kind strategic alliance to provide executive education programs in Canada and Hong Kong. The Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto and the Faculty of Management at McGill University will combine their resources and faculty to provide managers and businesses with a series of innovative executive education programs beginning this spring.

ÒThe U of T and McGill are CanadaÕs strongest brand names in education, and certainly the best known in international markets,Ó said Paul Halpern, dean of the Rotman School. ÒCreating the Alliance allows both schools to expand their executive programs beyond their traditional markets because of the advantage of the two great names working together. More important, our executive clients can now be doubly certain that they will receive the highest quality management education.Ó

ÒThe business community will derive significant benefit from the collaboration of these two world-renowned schools,Ó said Wallace Crowston, dean of the Faculty of Management at McGill. ÒFirms with operating branches in Montreal, Toronto, and Ottawa will now be able to offer their managers the same top executive training in all three cities.Ó

The Executive Alliance, as it has been named, will be officially launched on Monday, Jan. 12 during a reception at the Rotman School.

Anthony Comper, chair of the University of Toronto Governing Council, and president and chief operating officer of the Bank of Montreal, will address the significance of the Executive Alliance during the reception.

Based on the latest business concepts and research, the programs of the Executive Alliance prepare managers from all levels and areas of management to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing business environment. The world-renowned faculties of both schools will join together with leaders in industry and business to offer practical educational sessions in topics ranging from strategic marketing to financial derivatives.

Leading the Executive Alliance will be Daniel Ondrack, professor of organizational behaviour, and interim director of the Rotman School Executive Programs, and Alistair Duff, professor of accounting, and director of the McGill Executive Institute.

Eleven professional development courses will be offered in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and Hong Kong beginning in March 1998, namely:

  • The Effective Manager
  • Essential Management Skills
  • Negotiating for Success
  • The Project Management Process
  • Strategic Marketing
  • Winning at New Products
  • Accounting and Finance for Non-Financial Executives
  • Corporate Finance and Capital Markets
  • Merger & Acquisition Valuation
  • Successful Analysis and Control of Derivatives
  • Frontiers of Derivative Research
