Rotman MBA students are exposed to a global perspective of management both inside and outside the classroom. Through a range of internationally-focused elective courses and programs, Rotman students are exposed to challenges that test, expand, and strengthen their theoretical knowledge.

International Exchange Program

Students choose from a range of elective courses dealing with international management. In second year, you have the opportunity to participate in exchange programs for one full term. In Summer 2010, Fall 2010 and Spring 2011, 28 second- and third-year students participated in exchanges at 23 leading universities worldwide, studying everywhere from Switzerland to Singapore.

International Study Tours

The International Study Tours (IST) are designed to provide a framework with which to understand the opportunities and challenges associated with the emergence of major new markets in the world economy.  The trips include stopovers in major cities where students will learn firsthand what it is like to do business while participating in a number of cultural and tourist activities.  Site visits to local, Canadian and international companies provide students with a well-rounded overview of the specific country.

Tours offered during the 2011-2012 academic year include:

China
Europe
India
Latin America

Doing Business International (DBI) Intensive Program

The DBI offers alternative international experience: a hybrid of the International Exchange Program and the International Study Tours. Based at one of Rotman’s international partner schools, the DBI is an intensive course that focuses on how to do business in a specific country. The academic component of the program is overseen entirely by the partner school (in much the same way as the International Exchange Program) but does take place over the course of 1-2 weeks. Like the International Study Tours, the program includes activities outside of the classroom including company presentations, tours, roundtables table discussions, but these are truly secondary to the in-class piece.

DBI offered during the 2011-2012 academic year include:

Germany
Israel
South Korea

International Consulting Projects

The International Consulting Project is a program in which IPSO has partnered with a variety of companies and organizations both in Canada and overseas to develop an internationally focused independent study project. Under the supervision of a Rotman faculty member, Rotman students will work on and deliver a project outlined by the partner. Projects are an in-depth study of a specific country or region and, in some cases, require international travel.  ICPs offer students a chance to gain targeted international experience and contribute to companies abroad.

ICPs offered during the 2011-2012 academic year include:

Brazil – IT industry
Canada – Elective Health Care
Global – Governance, Finance
Global – G20, Digital G20
Israel – Medical Device
United Arab Emirates – Emerging Markets
