Research by Rotman School Faculty Honoured for Impact.

Toronto, July 24, 2017 – A professor who recently joined the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management has won an award for his dissertation and three other faculty members received honours for the impact of their research.

Zachary Zhong, an assistant professor of marketing, was one of the winners of the INFORMS Society of Marketing Science Doctoral Dissertation Award. Prof. Zhong joined the Rotman School this month after pursuing a PhD in marketing from the Haas School of Business at the University of California Berkeley. His dissertation is titled “Targeted Search and Platform Design.”

Two papers from marketing faculty at the Rotman School were finalists for the INFORMS Society for Marketing Science Long Term Impact Award which is given annually to a marketing paper published in an INFORMS journal that is viewed to have made a significant long run impact on the field of marketing.

“Online Display Advertising: Targeting and Obtrusiveness” co-authored by Avi Goldfarb, the Ellison Professor of Marketing, which was published in Marketing Science in 2011 was one of the finalists for the award.

“Investigating Consumers’ Brand Choice and Purchase Incidence Decisions across Multiple Product Categories: A Theoretical and Empirical Analysis” by Prof. Nitin Mehta, published in Marketing Science in 2007, was another finalist. The finalists were chosen from the pool of all prior marketing papers in all INFORMS journals from 2007 to 2012.

A paper by co-authored by Prof. Alexander Dyck, who holds the Manulife Financial Chair in Financial Services, was a finalist for the Investment for Impact Research Prize award for outstanding research pertaining to the social impact of capital. The prize was created by the Center for Responsible Business at the Haas School to encourage rigorous academic research on the impact of capital investments and to disseminate findings across both the academic and practitioner community. Prof. Dyck’s paper is “Do Institutional Investors Drive Corporate Social Responsibility? International Evidence.”
