Rotman Professors Honoured by Professional Associations

Toronto, Auguest 26, 2008 -- Gary Latham, Secretary of State Professor of Organizational Effectiveness, received awards from two different organizations for lifetime contributions. Chen-Bo Zhong, an assistant professor of organizational behaviour, was presented with an award for his PhD dissertation. Timothy Simcoe, an assistant professor of strategic management, received an award for the best paper in the Business Policy and Strategy Division of the Academy of Management.

Prof. Latham received the Thomas A. Mahoney Mentoring Award for his lifetime work with doctoral students from the Human Resource Division of the Academy of Management. In the same week he received the Harry and Miriam Levinson Award for Exceptional Contributions to Consulting Organizational Psychology from the American Psychological Association. The award is given annually to a member of the Association who is able to convert psychological theories and concepts into applications by which leaders and managers can creative more effective organizations.

Earlier this year, Prof. Latham was elected President of The Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) and was also elected to the board of The Society for Human Resource Management. He has been at the University of Toronto since 1990.

Prof. Zhong, who joined the Rotman School in 2006, received the William H. Newman Award from the Academy of Management. The award is given to an outstanding paper based on a recent dissertation. His paper examines “The Ethical Dangers of Rational Decision Making.”

Prof. Simcoe received The Glueck Best Paper Award in the Business Policy and Strategy Division of the Academy of Management for his paper, “Horizontal Diversification and Vertical Contracting: Firm Scope and Asset Ownership in Taxi Fleets,” co-authored with Prof. Evan Rawley of The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
